Running MS-DOS 6.22 natively on a modern laptop
This allows us to play old DOS games (like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D) on real hardware instead of through emulation.
It’s hard to run DOS on modern PCs because DOS relies on BIOS features that newer systems with UEFI are dropping.
Even if our CPU can run DOS code, getting sound and network cards recognized is tricky.
This makes simply installing DOS on a current machine not straightforward.

To make it work, we would need to:
* Find a compatible laptop that still has legacy BIOS support (many modern laptops no longer do).
* Enable legacy/CSM mode, disable Secure Boot, and tweak other system protections so DOS can boot.
* Install MS-DOS on a USB stick because it’s easier given DOS’s older partition requirements.

Because DOS expects old PC hardware:
* We need a special driver (SBEMU) that emulates a classic Sound Blaster sound card using modern audio hardware.
* Built-in ethernet doesn't work. Several Thunderbolt network adapters work but slowly.
But we can get ChatGPT running within DOS thanks to that network connection!

For most people who just want to play classic DOS games, using an emulator like DOSBox or an old PC is easier and more practical than trying this on a modern laptop.
Emulators replicate the experience without needing all the hardware hacks.
Modern machines aren’t designed for old software like DOS anymore.
We can still get it working, but it requires specific hardware and firmware tweaks.
Emulation remains the easiest path for most retro gamers to enjoy old games.
