George Cindea's Journey to Cybersecurity
I had my first contact with a computer when I was 8, and I fell in love.
Sure, at that point, it was only games.
Time went by, and I pressured my parents to get me a computer of my own.
Then the internet came over, and I used my pocket money to have ISDN at home for a couple of years.
Over time, I transitioned from games to other things like programming, design, photo manipulation, scripting, and networking.
But I started my professional career as a sysadmin based on Windows systems, since those were the ones I was familiar with. Linux at that time was not as user-friendly as it is nowadays, and for me, it was downright scary.
But I had to transition to Linux for a role I had, and after a while to get accustomed to the CLI and all, the fear dissipated, and the thirst for knowledge appeared.
I wasn't an expert in Linux, not then and not now, but I can say that it is my daily driver, always my first choice.
In time, I have naturally transitioned from a sysadmin role to a DevOps role, focusing more on the architecture part, CI/CD, pipelines, using various tools for various roles, etc.
But the HARDN project gives me a chance to go back to the roots, learn some more info about the nitty gritty of a Linux system, and some more stuff about networking, security, and so on.
So, thank you for having me!
